Oldies? Vintage?

Yes, probably...but not antiques.  Wiki said the term "antique" is applicable to objects more than 100 years old.  I don't have any antique stuff.  I can't afford them, really. :P

But I do love old stuff.

While family & friends (and people in general) are into the newest and trendiest phones, cameras or other gadgets...I seem to be taking so many steps behind, and seem to really like old stuff.   Actually, I've always liked old stuff.

When I just got married, I used my parents' old dining set for my house...wooden country-style table and chairs that my parents bought in 1984, when I was 12.  A few years ago the wear and tear became worse and we had to discard the set *yes I am sort of kicking myself now apasal lah dulu malas nak perbetulkan dining set tu*

When I went to Kota Kinabalu for BIM2012, I loved the old brass items which were sold at the morning Sunday market.  Tapi mahal sangat la pulak.  Recently, I asked my grandmother if she still has her old brass iron..yang guna arang tu.
"Entah la mano Nenek simpan..dah pindah rumah ni..mano poei entah.  Nenek raso ado anak-anak Nenek dah ambik dah tu."
Baru cucu nak mengecek :P

Anyway, baru-baru ni berjaya jumpa mangkuk tingkat yang dicari-cari! Yayy for the world wide web!

I even asked my Aina my running buddy to go ask her nenek if she wants to sell me one!  Buat masa ni, letak (sebagai hiasan) kat dapur.
Can you spot which one is the 'vintage item'?  I got it online also.  I know it doesn't suit well here..takpelah, nanti-nanti cari tempat lebih sesuai.
As seen before somewhere in this blog, the nearly-30-years-old brass candle stand.  Sampai dah jarang nak kilatkan dah :P
The also nearly-30-years-old brass urn.  My mom lost the cover, and  'corong tuang air' & handle dah tercabut.  I think it's somewhere in my house still, bila nak bawak peteri, entahlah.
Hmmm patutlah banyak barang dari rumah ni boleh jadi last-minute-props untuk dinner tema Zaman Kesultanan Melayu Melaka hari tu...

The fan is not an oldie, baru 3 tahun kot..design memang macam tu.  Downside - tak boleh pusing kiri kanan.  Buluh-buluh tu I beli kat kedai tahun ni, bukan ambik kat hutan mana-mana pun.
I think this is more than 30 years old.  It's like a leather notebook cover.  Keras, dalam ada lining.
I don't remember if this is mine or my sister's.  Tapi I ingat sangat images kat sini, it's like I've eaten off the plate when I was small.  Or maybe I remember them because I used to feed my sisters when they were little..?  If it is mine then it's about 40 years old!  Tahan lama kan...it's Noritake.
(patutlah my father suka cakap kadang2 beli barang mahal sikit takpe, tahan lama)
A few years ago I wrote a blog entry on my kids' books.  I had this picture also, which was my set of Children's Encyclopedia from 1979.  I was in Standard One then and I remembered I read the book nearly every day, kadang-kadang tu topik/cerita yang sama berulang-kali.  Now I have to remind my boys to read it...sebab minat diaorang banyak kat kereta..weapons... *eeekk*
Why did I get the books, brass items, Noritake plate etc...?  And not my sisters?  Rasanya sebab diaorang tak teringat nak mintak kot.  Atau tak berapa minat.  There were too small to remember all those things anyway, when we first had them.

I have one more oldies/vintage item that I have my eyes on.  Tapi budget takde so nanti je la...

I takde set encyclopedia but I did have a pretty complete collection of Enid Blyton's books from Bom, The Little Boy Drummer ke St Clare's ke Secret Seven etc... All bought from my own hard-earned money (part time jual makanan kat stall depan funfair timekecik2 dulu) ;p

Wow, cantik your decor... dinner siap ada theme lagi tu. Very the nais. :)

Tiffin carrier (the modern ones) are making a comeback at my office. Ramai yang tapau food from home here. Bagus kan? Not me, malas nak masak pagi2. HU~

Ain,
Ada jugak ye? Best tau sebenarnya tu. Memang I ingat I baca banyak kali. Sampai darjah berapa entah still baca lagi hehe

Lina,
Enid Blyton St Clare's! I like! Teringat diaorang punya lemondade (soda?) and chocolate bar...it's like the girls' treat kalau outing. And lacrosse. Masa tu la baru tau lacrosse tu game apa haha
Theme dinner masa MRSM Jasin 30th Anniversary Dinner la tu. Yang last minit I tetiba volunteer tolong hiaskan registration counter :P
I lupa nak ambik gambar Tupperware punya tiffin, just to compare "then & now". Oh tiffin yang silver tu kan org bwk pegi ofis? Kalau I pun mungkin tak sempat kot nak masak pagi2 :P
